Week of March 26-30

Dear Parents,
Hooray it is finally Spring! I hope that you and your family are enjoying watching all the plants and trees regain their green.  
Can you believe there is only one reminding nine weeks before summer?  Please remind your student of the importance of staying focused at school even with the excitement of Spring break right around the corner. We will continue working hard and toward fifth grade as there are obviously, still many skills that fourth graders will be learning throughout this last nine weeks.
This week’s skill and story
This week we will be reading a, How Night Came From the Sea, a pourquoi story, also known as an origin story or an etiological tale, is a fictional narrative that explains why something is the way it is, for example why a snake has no legs, or why a tiger has stripes. Many legends and folk tales are pourquoi stories.
Skill of the Week: Making Generalizations

Vocabulary Words: How Night Came From the Sea
brilliant   shining brightly; sparkling
chorus   anything spoken or sung all at the same time
coward   person who lacks courage or is easily made afraid; person who runs from danger, trouble, etc.
gleamed   flashed or beamed with light
shimmering    gleaming or shining faintly

Mrs. Okey’s Homeroom Homework
Monday- Read 316-331 to an adult
Tuesday- Write a sentence with each vocabulary word
Wednesday- Read 316-332 and answer the questions on 332
Thursday- Study vocabulary and the story to prepare for your test tomorrow

Mrs. Smith’s Homeroom Homework
Monday- Prepare for your novel test tomorrow
Tuesday- Begin working on your next novel study (complete at least 5 words)
Wednesday- Thursday----Work on your novel; complete at least 5 words daily.
