Week of March 5-9

Dear Parents,
I hope your week is off to a great start!
March Reminders:
Spring Book Fair March 6th - March 14th
Spring Auction on March 9th starting at 6:00pm
Workdays March 22 & 23

This week we are reading a fantasy story (contains elements that could never really happen) entitled, The Stranger. This story is an intriguing mystery that fourth graders will enjoy.
Please take the time this week to listen to your child read this short selection.   

Homework
Monday- Read The Stranger and write a reflection on your reading log.
Tuesday- Write cause and effect  sentences with each of your vocabulary words.
EXAMPLE: There was a draft in the room because the window was left open.
(Cause=WHY it happened     Effect=What happened)
Wednesday- Reread the stranger to an adult and write a reflection on your reading log
Thursday-Study Vocabulary and your story: Be prepared for your test tomorrow.

Vocabulary for The Stranger
draft- current of air
etched-engraved; a design or drawing on a metal plate, or glass
fascinated- interested greatly; attracted very strongly; charmed
frost- moisture frozen on or in a surface; feathery crystals of ice formed when water vapor in the air condenses at a temperature below freezing
parlor- formerly, a room for receiving or entertaining guest; sitting room
terror-great fear
timid- easily frightened

Our class will continue to complete their novel studies. We will be wrapping those up this week and the students will have a test on his/her novel this Friday.
We will also be reading The Stranger and focusing on the literary elements of this fun mystery.
Homework
Vocabulary and Novel due Thursday: Finish up any unfinished parts.
Wednesday- We will be going to library tomorrow and visiting the book fair. Bring your money if you’d like to buy a bookJ.
Thursday- Read the highlights of your novel and review your main idea sheets for your test tomorrow.
