EOG Vocabulary
- inform -- the author gives facts or true information
- authors purpose -- the reason why an author writes a selection
- entertain -- the author simply wants you to enjoy the selection
- persuade -- the author shares their own beliefs or opinions
- text feature -- placed in text to help the reader locate important information
- cause -- why something happened
- effect -- what happened
- heading -- the title at the top of a page
- subheading -- a title above at the beginning of a section
- caption -- words to describe a picture
- map -- image that shows places
- timeline -- order of events within a certain period of time
- main idea -- most important thing a story says about a topic
- details -- help to support the main idea of a selection
- sequence -- the order in which events happen
- events -- things that happen in a story
- compare -- tell how things are alike
- contrast -- tell how things are different
- describe -- to tell about, give details
- inference -- solving a problem based on what you already know
- draw conclusion -- make a decision based on clues from the story
